Church records

Maltese church records are being digitised from microfiche made in the 1980s. These are interesting primary sources to confirm dates and names. Below are some extracts from important family events.

In this beautifully written entry, Macrantonio Pullicino, notary, married Anna Farrugia 17 January 1678, Siggiewi parish. The priest was Anna’s brother, Dr Don Domenico Farrugia (parish priest of Siggiewi). Marcantonio’s parents are mentioned: Petro and Lucretzia. Anna’s parents also: Angelo and Maria, who hailed from St Paul’s in Valletta. It may have been that priests representing each parish were invited. Don Natale Pullicino, Marcantonio’s brother, blessed the couple (“benedixit”) and there was some role for Don Domenico Pace, parish priest of Zebbug (served 1674-1687). Hard to read.

Notary Arcangelo Pullicino, married Giuliuzza Calleja at Zebbug on 26th November 1715. Both Arcangelo’s parents are deceased, and Guila’s father is a physician (Gabriele Calleja), her mother is Maria Palma.

Arcangelo’s son, Dr Gabriele Luca Pullicino, a Doctor of Medicine, married Catarina Mangion on 23rd November 1761. Church of St. Philip of Agira, Żebbuġ (page 372).

1762: Dr Gabriele Luca and Catarina have their first child: Filipo.

1765: the birth of Arcangelo, son of Dr Gabriele Luca Pullicino, named after the baby’s grandfather, second name Peter, and third name Paul. This poor child died at the age of 4.

1780: The third birth, the boy is for the 3rd time called Arcangelo, second name Marcantonio. He lives to to 81 years and sires in the next generation.
